This week in AB: May 2, 2025

The Danielle Smith show, recall update, a federal election, a seatless leader... buckle up!

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best, they say. Thanks to the lack of subtlety in their foreshadowing, we were all prepared for Danielle Smith to cause a national unity crisis if the Liberals won a fourth term, but I have to admire their efforts to insulate her from the brunt of it, either way.

Oh, and on Thursday we learned that Sam Mraiche and Justice Minister Mickey Amery are long-time pals and “loosely” related by marriage. I’m “loosely” related to NDP MLA Marlin Schmidt and Tamara Lich in the same way, but I’m not out defending my government for handing out half a billion in contracts to them. While a spit take may be similarly warranted, it’s for totally different reasons.

I am off to visit family this weekend and will return on Monday. We all deserve a break :)
