I really hope those Alberta projections are real. This means all of us Albertans have to hone in on Alberta ridings and promote the Liberals party. Kind of easy to do with just sticking to facts and truths, even if the backlash gets nasty. Whether it's possible to bring in another Liberal win or 3, I suppose we'll see. But don't give up people.

I am in a Calgary riding that is in a dead heat so it’s getting out to vote that will elect a Liberal. Fingers crossed.

I'm in a smaller Alberta city and pleased to report that I saw quite a few red signs on lawns during my travels yesterday.

My riding is entrenched CPC so it was wonderful to see there is some local support for the Liberal candidate.

We need to vote for members of parliament who will help us. I live in St. Albert, just outside of Edmonton and I’m voting Liberal. Mark Carney needs to be my prime minister 🤍🇨🇦❤️.

Great piece. Thank you for your humor and your honesty. At the moment of perhaps the greatest potential crisis in Canada, it’s refreshing to see and read the openness of people. It seems everyone understands the significance of a wrong choice in this election.

A leader firmly on the side of using the Notwithstanding Clause as a blunt instrument is breathtaking given what the purpose of that provision is. There are many, many, many voters in the U S who now firmly understand what a bad choice in an election means. It seems Danielle Smith is sympathetic to MAGA and from PP rhetoric he does too even if he argues, no he isn’t.

Voters have a serious choice to make and none of the choices are perfect. One leader has the experience, education and economic background that will serve Cdns well in this time of need. He has a vision that promises to make life better for Cdns in these changing times. He sees a more independent, made in Canada economic approach with international trading partnerships.

All votes that support a free Canada matter and therefore Redmonton is important because it helps who will lead against the MAGA idiocy. MAGA Sympathies mean subjugation to a cause that has no room for independence and freedom.

"but young men aged 18 to 24. The people who tend to show up and vote, however, are statistically more likely to be fearful of being victims of crime."

Do you have a source for this? I tried googling it and came up with some old data focused on walking home at night and it does indicate women are much more fearful. I'm not suggesting it's better, no one should feel unsafe walking home it's just the sort of stat that interests me.

Spent some time in Edmonton in '99, lovely city.

Haha -- making me update my stats! Which I probably should because that was over 15 years ago now. Looks like it's still the same.

We usually think of "crime" as being something that is major crime but it includes everything, like theft, which is more common.

The way it was told to me by my prof was "the average perpetrator of crime is male, 18-24. And their victims most often are their peers."

Looks like the stats still stand but they made the range bigger: 15-30.

At both the provincial and federal levels, the CPC has been sputtering on empty for years. Strategic, long-term planning that benefits Canadians across the country? They couldn’t organize a handjob in a whorehouse. It’s a sad day when Smith and PP are the best the CPC can offer. It might just be time to burn it to the ground and see what grows in the ashes.

I’d classify my views as centrist and financially based. I’ve voted blue, red, and yes even orange (that one time in university) in the last 30 years. If the LPC was fielding a Trudeau-esque candidate, I’d be hard-pressed to swing red. My kids’ kids will be paying off his undisciplined shit show for years to come.

Thankfully Carney appears to have sufficient distance between his head and his ass, and the ability to navigate Canada through an upcoming stretch of rough water. Ready to swing red, this is my ask for Carney and the LPC:

Govern with integrity. Fight the urge to reward loyalty at the expense of reason. Invest in infrastructure when there is a clear economic case to be made, not based on some pie-in-the-sky hopes and dreams (Alto, that’s you, you’re a good idea that’s 40 years too late, and don’t even get me started on Air-fucking-Canada being involved). Don’t pander to either Quebec or Alberta. Don’t give the western tin-foil brigade any ammo (figuratively, and literally). Develop a solid plan and execute it well. Carney, focus on being a leader, not a politician. Don’t get lost in visions of the next four before the first four are up. Show us your stuff on Day 1 and don’t let up.

Regardless the outcome, it’s going to be an interesting few years. Buckle up, kids.
