Parsing populist politicians polemics perplexes… yes, I went looking for alliteration.
The problem is that everything is a pose. It’s about reaching our feelings. When they have a healthy dose of narcissism, like Danielle Smith and Donald Trump, do they really mean what they say? Are they playing chess, when I’m playing checkers? Or… are they caught up in their own personality flaws unable to see that their actions create far more consequences than the simple, linear ones that initiated their partisan, populist, political polemics?
Trump and Smith are the same kind of “smart”, as in, they want to believe things are easy. They’re also the same kind of selfish — if it’s good for them, they cannot see beyond their own nose how or if it affects anyone else.
Not to worry. The Premier of Alberta has a corruption lawsuit coming at her like a freight train. She will be GONE soon enough. That's how we handle criminals in Canada. We don't elect them President.
So many of my comments/questions are slightly off topic, I realize.
And you know I've been stuck on the fact no one seems to be addressing the sovereignty threats/"jokes" as if they're serious.
So here goes: Has Trudeau said the thing he said to this small group of people, to Canadians? I don't think I've heard it but, I don't listen to his every speech.
Yeah, I could see that but, on second thought, I think it's probably more of a strategic choice from a foreign-affairs angle. If Trump doesn't see us officially responding to the threat, is it even a real threat? With someone like him, that might actually be a reasonable approach.
The downside, IMO, is that you have people like us who can see and feel and hear the threat, but are getting radio silence from their leadership. It's this absence of acknowledgment that makes me panic, personally.
And that’s the pickle exactly. However, it is probably mostly unlikely military force will be applied. Yes, that’s a lot of hedging :) but it’s unlikely because we have a better relationship with most every country than he does. And thanks to Musk’s Nazi salute behind the presidential seal, every country in the world is probably thinking differently about his “51st state” comments.
Also, the wall never happened. The tariffs haven't materialized, YET. And he seems balls-deep occupied in the Palestine bullshit.
On the other hand, I fear WW3-inducing retribution should he use military force anywhere else. And I really hate him for speaking about Canada as if we're something he can just grab off a display case.
Always take his evil jokes seriously 😳

And they're easily controlled by much smarter people, if I may add.

No — and he asked media to leave the room before he said it.
Well, that doesn’t bode well for him. And it pisses me off. Obviously.
I mean, you and I have been there for months. My guess is they don’t want to induce panic, even if some of us are already there.

"Cool cool cool cool cool"

Thanks for the therapy today, Deirdre.
What is Smith really doing? Acting treasonous to her country. And we’re watching and taking note! 🇨🇦
Say ‘ gimme a break ‘ in French!
Nothing except falling at his feet.
Rubbish from first to last word.
