I have decided to start a new political entity in Alberta. It will address the various aspects of the ever-present threat to bale from Canada that has been a staple in this province for the last half-century. It will be called Albertans Sick of Stupid Hijinks All the Time or simply, ASSHAT. Easier to remember than WIPA, TBA, RPA, WPP, WEXIT, WLC, et al …
It sadly never ends with this crowd. I've heard the "Panel" referred to the UCP Reelection Tour. As such they will do their level best to avoid more bear pits like Fort MacLeod.
They've already received the answers to their potential referendum questions. So, this is just typical Smith trouble- making.
It’s a great excuse to get in front of Albertans and few lie as easily as Smith — the more people she can manipulate, the better their chances of success.
As someone who grew up in Alberta I read this column because I still have an interest in the politics out there. But here’s a question: I sort of understand what Alberta thinks Canada should do for them, but I don’t understand what Alberta think it does, or should do, for Canada? I live in Ontario now and from my sheltered vantage point on my porch deep in this country’s south it doesn’t seem like Alberta does very much.
That’s an excellent question. If the separatists are responding, the answer is simple: pays more taxes and “gets nothing in return”. Did you happen to catch the Alberta separatist campaign three-part series I did in May? It’s a rundown of complaints from six guys who support the separatist movement and their arguments for separation from Canada.
I did see the 3-part series, hence the question. Ontario, where I now live, pays far more in taxes. But is that how we are to measure our place as citizens of this country?
I wouldn’t think so but those who yell the loudest really don’t seem to have anything else, and our premier was apparently groomed to listen only to those voices. I wish I had a better explanation but they don’t seem to have one.
Ick. Your 'Peter Guthrie ethical type' candidate was running on the naughty- books-in-the-schools platform, until he scrubbed it from his Facebook page. The photo of him proudly door-knocking with Jennifer Johnson is still up though. (And Dave Dorward lol).
The voters in Ellerslie maybe figured out that the schools ARE broken, just not like that.
Ew — I read the one article on him and that was it. But I don’t typically do much research on candidates who aren’t elected anyway; I escaped the Caylan Ford suit by maintaining a focus only on elected folks and it, ahem, paid off.

In sum: money. Alberta pays taxes.

According to Smith, “Everybody wins…” Sure, as long as you’re an oil and gas company or one of her cronies.
