You just noticed that post media was shilling for right wing thought, American interests and wacko Alberta libertarians? I cancelled my subscription to these rags back in 2021. I started a Facebook Group called Edmonton Local News by Edmontonians, to cover the news and opinions that Postmedia had gone silent on. I stopped supporting what I called ”UCP Pravda” by not subscribing to or even reading the once respectable Edmonton Journal.

Not "just noticed" so much as "had enough". I'm all for differences of opinion when it doesn't really matter; but it does now. A whole lot more than anyone seems willing to admit.

Thanks for this post Deirdre. Unfortunately, it’s not just the Herald, the Journal, or the Suns, but seemingly all newspapers in Alberta. I cancelled my decades long Journal subscription a few years after Postmedia purchased it as I couldn’t stand the biased editorializing. This week I took my local paper to task for its Postmedia editorial on current affairs entitled “Our king Trumps your President”. It contained not one word of criticism of Smith’s kowtowing to Trump. Bless him, the editor actually replied, as follows:

“Yes, to be clear, the Editorials are not ones I or others at the Dispatch are writing, but ones I've chosen from a selection Post Media has on a given day. Though, I can and may write my own from time to time.

But, I can definitely do a better job when selecting Editorials to even them out more, and aim to have the opinions expressed show more balance. “ I thanked him and told him I’d be watching. :-)

We need to hold news publishers responsible. I’m convinced one of the reasons Postmedia, and others, are suffering financially is the quality of their publications. They may figure that out, or just go away.

Yes we do need to hold the paper responsible, but the last two weeks, for me — was Braid and Bell specifically. Just begging to make themselves irrelevant.

Reading the columns of bootlicking idiots like David Staples and Rick Bell is no different than watching Fox News. The Journal and Herald can finish their swirl down the toilet and we’d be better off. They gave up their legitimacy as a trusted news source long ago.

Instead of paying “journalists” a handout we have to buy these newspapers back. Harper started the sell off and Trudeau was too stupid to stop it! Politics in Alberta is impossible without a free and fair media.

Everything you've said. Postmedia has been untrustworthy forever. All the more reason to start re-funding CBC, which is the only independent, publicly --not privately owned-- source of news and investigative journalism in Canada. More than ever, Canadians need the CBC. There's a reason that conservatives provincially and federally (like Poilievre) take pot-shots at the CBC. And it's not because the CBC's journalism is pro-government (because it often isn't). It's because their journalism is _unbiased_. The first thing authoritarians and fascists try to do is control the courts and control the media. We're seeing that in the US, and it's happening here in Alberta and other parts of Canada. The best way to stop it is with good journalism, a free, independent, publicly owned, press.

PostMedia is just doing what PostMedia always does which is act like a shill for the Republican MAGATS because that’s who they’re owned by. I mean come on it’s owned by Chatham asset management, which is 70% owned by Anthony Melchiorre who the US Securities and Exchange commission charged with improper trading of fixed income securities in 2023. Not to mention the fact that Post media owns almost every news outlet in Alberta so that’s all the news Albertan’s ever get.

Bullshit skewed, right wing garbage!

Post-Media is simply a propaganda tool for conservatives, from centrist to far right fascist. They control some 90% of print media in Canada, one editorial board for all leading to same stories, same headlines, same propaganda for all. Especially dominant in rural agrarian areas.

You can't trust anything in a postmedia publication and there are a lot of them. Any criticisms of conservatives or pro liberal comments are deleted and only the person posting it can see it. They turned my hometown paper into a conservative propaganda tool. We haven't voted a conservative in in 60 years! Stay far away from them and do not give them any money.

Postmedia is the Canadian equivalent of the National Enquirer. The first ones to ask Ottawa for money. The last ones to support our country.
